changing the flight date (US Airways)?

well, I plan to take a flight on the 17th from China to U.S. and then catch a flight by U.S. Airway from LA to Las Vegas.
well, I plan to take a flight on the 17th from China to U.S. and then catch a flight by U.S. Airway from LA to Las Vegas.
The situation now is they cancel the flight from China on the 17th and move it to the 16th. There is basically nothing I can do about it, I have to take the 16th flight, which means I will be arriving at the LA airport one day earlier than I planed. I want to change my flight time so I call the U.S. Airway and ask them about it. But they told me that since my ticket is non-refundable and unchangeable, I have to pay $150+ to change it. That’s obviously not worth it.
Will it work if I just go to their counter on the 16th ask them to change my flight time, or will I have to stay at the airport for one night??
THANK YOU!

That’s unfortunate that your flight got switched. Unexpected travel problems happen to a lot of people. At this point, don’t worry about it and try to make the most of the situation.
Even if you go to the counter on the 16th and ask for a change, they will still make you pay the $150 fee.
The people working at the counter can’t give special treatment or do any special favors.
You can stay in the airport if you like, but you will have to sleep with one eye open and guard your bags. It also won’t be very comfortable or quiet. It might be easier to book a hotel next to the airport and have a good rest before your flight to Vegas.
Best of luck.

I will assume the flight from China to LAX is NOT US Airways (otherwise they would have changed the second flight..)?
When you get to LAX and clear customs (take your bags, don’t recheck yet), go to the USAirways customer service desk and inquire about flying standby. Explain your situation. The odds are most planes will be full, but you might get lucky, and the standby fee is a little less than the change fee, plus the agents have more flexibility with it, especially if your plane the next day is very full.
